Montessori of Aurora
-----------------------------------------

Pre-School Classroom Ages 3-6

The Montessori Method is based on the child's developmental needs for freedom within limits and a carefully prepared environment. This method guarantees exposure to materials and experiences to develop intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities. It is designed to take full advantage of the self-motivation and unique ability of children to develop their own capabilities. The Montessori classroom is divided into many areas, so the child can choose work independently at his or her own level.

Having a multi-age environment allows the children to grow as their interests lead them from one level of complexity to another. The younger children are given the opportunity to learn from the older children as the older children become the younger child's role models. The younger children allow the older children an opportunity to reinforce the knowledge that they have previously learned and also to be in the role as a leader and teacher.

Kindergarten Program

As children progress through a Montessori program from three to six years they eventually reach a point in their development which is the culmination of a unique cycle of awareness and growth. The last year (Kindergarten) provides the child with a four hour daily cycle to continue to work with ever advancing materials in science, math, reading and geography. During this year the maturity level has developed into a natural need for further academic exploration. Children feel comfortable with their increasing abilities and continually seek challenges. Each child’s natural maturity and awareness eventually sparks an explosion into reading and math at this stage. The availability of the variety of advanced materials at the moment the child is emotionally and mentally ready is the foundation to the Kindergarten in a Montessori Classroom.

Montessori School of Aurora, Inc. was founded in May of 1995 by the husband and wife team of Joseph and Lori Contreras.

Since then, Montessori School of Aurora has become a wonderful addition to the surrounding communities. It has prospered into a dynamic educational facility catering to children ages 2-6 offering toddler, pre-school, and kindergarten.

Joseph and Lori are Colorado natives with two children of their own. Lori has been teaching in the Montessori field since 1987 and is the Director of this facility. Joseph has a strong background in many facets in the business and runs the administration.

Joseph and Lori have constructed a new facility that opened January 2001. This new attractive building is nestled within a beautiful community with many surrounding amenities. It houses 1 full-time toddler classroom, 4 full-time pre-school-kindergarten classrooms and 1 part-time pre-school classroom. The facility is located in the Smoky Hill shopping area on Tower and Smoky Hill Rd. adjacent to the postal building.
